Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1870s.
The original decorative gold initials are intact, I think G K .. not quite sure.

The inset carrying handle is beautifully engraved and followed through onto all of the hardware which becomes evident once opened. The key comes complete with a top notch original lock and key made by the best locksmith, and signed " Bramah, London "; the box is a "snap shut" type, so the key must never be left inside and should remain within the lock.

The interior is quite outstanding, pristine and almost untouched, perhaps this box has been kept in the bank vaults for many years, the green velvet in person even more of a vibrant emerald green colour.

The hardware is all gilded and engraved as previously mentioned. There are two drawers below the fitted tray, the top drawer opening with the gilded pulls and the bottom drawer is on a spring mechanism, opened by the pressing of the button in the centre of back long piano hinge.
As good as they get in excellent condition. 12" x 9" x 7".
