Antique Burr Walnut Jewelry or Table Box - Tunbridge Inlaid C.1850

Description

A really superb example of an English Victorian box, perfect for Jewellery, the desk-top or just to admire made from rich cognac coloured Burl Walnut and dating to around 1850.

The box is trimmed in Ebony and decorated with intricate and exquisite Tunbridge inlay. To the centre of the lid, there is a iridescent tablet of Mother of Pearl shell surrounded by Tulipwood cross-banding and various stringing inlays. This is also the case for the escutcheon to the front of the box.

The box has been professionally relined with a hand marbled paper to create a fresh and very usable interior. Complete with working key, the box remains in superb condition (One old repair below one hinge at rear, insignificant but mentioned for accuracy) with a beautifully French Polished patina. 9 3/4" x 6 3/4" x 4 1/2" tall.
