Antique English Eight-sided Tea Caddy - Floral Inlaid C. 1780 - Georgian

Description

A stunning and highly sought-after tea caddy with cantered corners creating an interesting eight-sided shape. These cantered corners are beautifully inlaid with a tall floral display in a classic urn.

The ovals to the front and lid are Satinwood and the panels all cross-banded in Satinwood, trimmed in Boxwood. The gorgeous oval to the lid is inlaid with another floral display in a flower bowl, and the front has a basket again over-flowing with flowers. The escutcheon which houses the working key is made from Ivory.

The interior reveals a fitted twin lidded box, the lids topped with turned Ivory knobs.

Excellent condition, dating to around 1780. 6 3/4" x 4 1/4" x 4 1/2" tall.
