Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The box is created from Rosewood with a large Maple panel to the top, which is where the aforementioned floral and foliate spray is inlaid, surrounded with a pretty tessellated tile mosaic in a scroll and foliate design.
The interior has been recently re-lined in a hand marbelled paper creating a lovely clean finish ready for another 150 years of use.
The box photographed a little darker than in person, the photo shows a deep Cognac colour, it is however a little lighter when seen.
Excellent condition, measuring 6" x 6" x 2 1/4".
