English Sterling Silver & Tortoise Shell Lidded Vanity Jar - Pique Inlay

Description

A very handsome vintage vanity or dressing table jar, topped with a particularly decorative sterling silver top with lots of detail, the type we (and our clients) are always looking for.

Around the side of the lid is a rope decoration, and the top decorated with a raised continuous Acanthus leaf border.

The top is inset with a beautiful piece of period tortoiseshell, with colours ranging from golden Champagne to rich chocolate brown. In turn, this shell is inlaid with intricate silver pique inlay with a musical Lyre and Horn motif.

The silver is of course hallmarked, for London 1916, 95 years old. Excellent condition, measuring 2 5/8" tall with a lid diameter measuring 2 5/8".
