Large Antique English George III Sheraton Period Knife Box C.1790

Description

A wonderful example of a late eighteenth century knife of cutlery box, make from stunning flmaed Mahogany, the lid inlaid with an exquisite large fan ovoid created from natural and green stained Sycamore. Unusually, the fan is surrounded with a metallic stringing in pewter or silver.

The lid is beautifully cross-banded in Tulipwood and framed in a Boxwood and Ebony stringing, this smart inlay is carried down the shaped front of the box.

The front has a little silver ring pull to open the lid and an inlaid escutcheon to the front made from Ivory, complete with a working key.

The interior is an absolute joy, retaining the complete fitted interior, and the interior of the lid beautifully inlaid.

A real beauty in excellent condition, the footprint measuring 9" x 9" x 14" tall at rear.
