Antique English Novelty Cream & Sugar Caddy by Elkington & Co. - 1874

Description

A most unusual silver plated sugar and cream caddy made by the creme de la creme of English Silversmith's, Elkington & Company.

Both the large Sugar basket and Creamer give the appearance of being created from coopered wood, the sugar appearing just like a wooden bucket or pail. The interior of both are washed in gold.

All three pieces have a matching mark for Elkington & Company, being Elkington there is always a date letter, allowing us to date the set accurately, this one with a date letter for 1874.

Standing on it's original four ball feet, it remains in excellent condition. The base of the caddy measures 8 1/4" x 4" (foot to foot). The creamer has a base diameter measuring 3" x 4 1/4" tall; the sugar with a base diameter measuring 3" in diameter and standing 6" tall to top of swing handle.
