Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.

Just like the full-sized examples, it is made from exotic Rosewood with the top decorated with the highly collectible Tumbling Block parquetry design and surrounded by a geometric border. The escutcheon is at the side with a Tunbridge inlaid surround, the box comes complete with a working taselled key.

Once opened, the interior reveals the original Amethyst coloured velvet writing slope surrounded by gold embossed leather border. The top section lifts to reveal a storage area below, again just like the full sized example.

Below the top lid, there are various compartments included a Tunbridge Ware lidded compartment, a tilting removable pen tray and two compartments for the tiniest inkwells.
A rare find, in excellent condition, measuring just 6" wide x 5" x 2" deep at rear.
