Unusual Antique English Sterling Silver & Mother of Pearl Card Case C.1870

Description

An absolute gem of a card case, made from Mother of Pearl, with front and back panels of English Sterling Silver, but unmarked.

The engine turned decoration is quite outstanding, intricate and fabulous quality with engraved floral motifs and shell shaped motifs to each corner. The centre of the front panel has a traditionally Victorian circular and buckle engraved cartouche with a highly decorative monogram in the middle, I think the intertwined initials are CCL.

The hinge and catch are in perfect working order, and once opened the Ivory trim is revealed, along with the original Amethyst coloured velvet.

Excellent condition, measuring 4" x 3".
