Rare Antique Mauchline Tartan Ware Postage Scale C.1880

Description

A miraculous find, I have never had the pleasure of owning one of these Victorian Scottish Tartanware letter scales.

Standing on it's four original turned feet, the base is decorated with the McLean tartan, retaining it's little gold on black label tucked under the rear brass support.

The arms supporting the pans are beautifully shaped, all the brass was removed and professionally re-polished to gleam. The weights are the ones that the scale came with, two are in Grams plus 1/4oz plus another, again all re-polished.

The letter pan is engraved N.B., I am not familiar with this mark, and whether this is indeed the manufacturers mark.

Dating to the Victorian era, around 1880, these scales make an outstanding addition to your Tartan Ware collection. 7 1/4" x 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" tall.
