Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1800s.

This campaign style box is edged in thick brass with flush brass handles and a very ornate brass escutcheon (there isn't a key with this lock, it's a complex lock which may be damaged in having one made, so I left it be).

The front of the box has a rich flamed Mahogany panel framed with a thick brass linear inlay, which in turn is surrounded by a highly decorative Kingwood cross-banding.
The top is exquisite with intricate cut brass inlay with Ebony wood inset to the cut-outs.

The box opens to reveal a wonderfully original interior, with a deep Burgundy leather writing slope with exquisite gold embossing. The top half has another lock to keep papers locked away, I have the key to the compartment. The edges are beautifully inlaid with brass with a top-notch screwed construction, one of these screws (which I will mark when impressed releases the cover concealing the three secret drawers.

Never does one find the original bronze candlesticks intact .. but here they are in their own compartment with the two holes to screw into. There are also two original inkwells with Sheffield plated lids, both in great condition.
There is another large section at the bottom, again complete with the Mahogany lectern which is stored here when closed up and fits into two holes on the lid, creating a shelf for a book to stand on an angle created by the inset support on the interior.
There is a full length drawer underneath with an automated locking mechanism when the lid is closed.
Quite magnificent, not to be missed, in excellent condition.
