Fabulous Antique English Chinoiserie Penwork Double Compartment Tea Caddy C.1820

Description

An absolute gem, hardly ever seen in such magnificent condition, so well preserved dating to 1820, Regency in period, approaching 200 years old.

The top is decorated with a stunning Chinoiserie scene with classical decoration on all sides. The caddy stands on four gilded Lion's paw feet and rings handles with highly decorative plates with a pair of over-flowing Cornucopias (one ring with wear, mentioned purely for accuracy).

The interior is an absolute joy. with the two removable tea canisters with hinged lids, again decorated with superb Chinoiserie scenes, further decoration surrounds the mixing bowl aperture. The bowl is of the period, heavy cut crystal and managed to survive the last 200 years unscathed. These bowls were used to blend the black and green leaves within the two caddies, creating a personal blend.

Magnificent in every way, you will have to go some to beat this example. Excellent condition, measuring 12 1/2" x 6" x 7 1/2" tall.
