Description

A lovely late Victorian letter box, made from solid English Oak and created to either use desk-top or to be hung on the wall.

These letter collection boxes date back to a more civilized time, when letters in a grand house would be placed in the caddy, collected by a member of the household staff to either be taken to the Post Office or hand-delivered.

The front has a very handsome polished brass panel, pierced or reticulated and engraved with Post and Delivery, labelling the two compartments.

Dating to around 1890, it remains in excellent condition measuring 9 3/4" x 4 3/8" x 5 1/4" tall to the top of the rear shaped panel.
