Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.

Below this circular plaque is a rectangular brass plate, for the retailer " W.H. Loftus / 18 Tottenham Court Road / London W.
These change makers would obviously have been bolted down and used to change A gold Sovereign into 20 Shilling or a half Sovereign into 10 Shillings.

The door has a working key and opens to reveal the interior where the boxes of change are stacked, these are dispensed via the brass drawers, I had to cheat by releasing the drawer via a pin on the underside of the mechanism ... as I don't have a gold sovereign! The drawer is opened with the removal of a brass pin above the letter "t". All the brass parts were professionally re-polished to produce a great decorative gem!

Dating to around 1890, Victorian in era, this box remains in superb condition. The base measuring 8 1/4" wide x 7 1/4" and stands 12 1/2" tall.
