Rare Regency Penwork Tea Caddy with Hunt Scene C.1820

Description

An exceptional tea caddy for the advanced collector, the most unusual I have had with the lid being decorated with a figural hunt scene including the hunter, Dogs and a Pheasant in a woodland setting. The scene is framed with a charming Oak leaf and acorn border.

Most antique penwork boxes were created with Chinoiserie scenes, so wonderful to find one with a very English subject.

The sides are decorated with a stunning all-over leaf design which is carried through to the lids of the two cannister lids inside.

Penwork is notoriously hard to find in excellent condition, this example has minimal wear but can only be considered excellent. There is one rear corner that has at some time had some wear, seen in the photographs.

A rare example dating to 1820, it's simply wonderful! 9 1/4" x 5 3/4" x 4 1/4" tall.
