Antique English Elkington & Co. Basket - Blue Opaline Glass Lined - 1853

Description

This is a striking basket, perfect for all sorts of things, nuts, candy, preserves, sugar or perhaps pot-pourri. Made from silver plate the open sides are decorated with grape vines supported by a highly decorative cast footed base.

The removable glass liner is perfect and without damage, totally original, the base having been custom molded to fit snugly into the base of the basket.

Made by the finest of silversmith's, Elkington & Co., there is a full mark on the underside with the date letter O for the year 1851, so well over 160 years old.

A superb piece in excellent condition and measuring 4 1/4" tall with a rim diameter of 5 1/4".
