Antique English Fern Engraved Basket - Silver Plate C.1880

Description

A highly decorative Victorian silver plated basket with a folding handle and standing on four cast and applied feet. The shape of this example is most unusual and very striking with it's highly decorative scalloped edge showcased by it's beaded repousse finish.

The basket is beautifully decorated with variety of Ferns and Roses, always highly prized being so Victorian and so very English. The intricate work surrounds a central oval cartouche with a small decorative monogram.

There is a makers mark on the underside I believe for John Gilbert and dating to around 1880/1890.

Excellent condition, measuring 12 1/4" x 8" x 9 1/2" to top of carrying handle.
