Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1910s.

The silver collar and hinged lid is hallmarked for London 1913 together with the makers initials WC for one of my favourite silversmith's, William Comyns, who produced wonderful quality pieces. The top is inset with a fabulous piece of Tortoise Shell with a good glossy patina showcasing it's rich natural tapestry. The shell is inlaid with quite exquisite silver pique work incorporating a shell motif to the top and a lady's face to the bottom.

There is a small glass ink liner intact. Superb in every way in excellent condition; the base measures 5" in diameter and standing 3" tall.
