Unusual Antique English Sterling Silver & Gold Visiting Card Case - 1895

Description

A fabulous are most unusual card case, the like of which I haven't come by before, with inlaid Gold straps to all corners, back and front.

The card case is quite stunning with an all-over engraved floral and foliate design, the front has a large circular vacant cartouche, which could be personalized by your silversmith, should you wish.

The hinge and clasp are in perfect working order. Once opened, the green taffeta lined interior is revealed with pockets to house visiting cards, perfect today for business cards; the interior has been professionally relined.

The silver is of course hallmarked for Birmingham 1895, making this a true Victorian example. The makers initials CS*FS are present for the highly sought-after silversmith, Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings - Frank Shepherd.

A good solid case in a good gauge silver, excellent condition, measuring 4" x 2 3/4".
