Rare Antique English Painted Box - Stone Specimens - George Iii, C.1820

Description

I have only ever seen one other example of this work before, and was delighted to come across this wonderful and highly decorative example dating to around 1820.

The shaped wooden box was exquisitely painted, all original with a variety of paint finishes resembling a variety of semi precious stones and marbles, these come together to create the most exquisite mosaic with the colours remaining vibrant. There are old little blemishes to the finish all-over, to be expected, stable and insignificant but mentioned for accuracy.

The interior has been relined in a vibrant hand-marbelled paper, created a good clean finish.

Complete with working taselled key, it remains in excellent condition. 9" x 7" x 3".
