It is in the Louis XVI style, architectural with Corinthian columns and a broken arch pediment above the dial. To the top is a large and elaborate urn with a floral finial. The design is beautifully fretted to lighten the design and also allow the pendulum to be glimpsed swinging within the case. This is a stunning, very large, heavy clock set with a superb original gild.
Candelabra are conforming in style with matching bases and urns. The four branches are modelled as scrolling acanthus with large drip pans and nozzles. The dial is also gilt with 12 individual enamel cartouche letters and original fretted blued steel hands. The hobnail bezel is fitted with convex glass and the rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen.
The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. Candelabra are slightly distorted. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.
