A stunning, tall and majestic original antique French Rococo clock and candelabra set. Beautiful Louis XV waisted shape with "C" scrolls, shells and floral swags.
Candelabra have four branches modelled as entwining foliage, standing above urns with scroll handles. The set is of very good quality with crisp, sharp and finely detailed modelling and the gilding has a lovely clean and bright finish.
The beautiful dial is enamel on copper with blue lettering and a separate outside minute ring. It has a Rococo bezel and finely fretted gilt brass hands. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen.
The French movement is by Louis Japy and is of high quality and has the superior Brocot designed pin-pallet escapement. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles to the next to the winding hole. Candelabra are slightly distorted and there are some holes where the set has been wired for electric candles at some point. One scroll on the base of one candelabra has been replaced in the past, see the picture below. The set makes a stunning display as you can see below.
