Antique English Papier Mache Inkstand - Sterling Silver Topped Inkwell C.1880

Description

A lovely little Victorian inkstand, dating to around 1880 inlaid with Mother of Pearl and finished with fine gilding. Inside the pen tray is a heraldic looking shield, again inlaid with shell and gilded.

The crystal inkwell is topped with a sterling silver hinged lid marked "Sterling" on the back of the collar, clearly imported silver. The top is decorated with a very attractive repuosse or embossed border around a vacant circular cartouche in the centre.

The stand sits on it's original three bun feet. Excellent condition, some fine crazing to the finish, usual but mentioned purely for accuracy. 7 1/4" x 5 3/4". The inkwell measuring 1 1/2" square x 2 1/4" tall.
