Carved Mahogany German Prisoner of War Puzzle Money Box - Calais 1919

Description

A really wonderful piece of treen for the PoW or Money box or bank collector, this figural gem was carved in the form of a woodworker's Plane.

The top of the plane is carved Calais (France) on the top, clearly the Prisoner of War camp where it was carved just after the First World War. The top swings to one side revealing the slot to the top of the money box, in turn this allows us to pull away from the plane front and the open again to enable the money to be collected.

A rare and charming piece in excellent condition. 5 1/8" long x 1 3/4" deep x 3 3/4" tall.
