Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The base is made from brass and was silverplated, the plate to the top of the base was very worn so I had it taken back to the brass rather than re-plating, I didn't want to re-plate the Britannia metal bust, it wouldn't look right at all.

Her Majesty's crown is hinged and lifts to reveal the ink chamber within, containing a removable glass liner. The base has been cast to create a pen rest on all four sides to rest ones dip pen.
This piece has all the markings one could wish for. Firstly the backside of the bust is cast with the following " Victorian Regina / 60 Years / 1897 "

The underside has the English design registration number 292192, which enables us to date it to 1897. The silversmith's have also signed the base, L & W for Lee & Wigfull and EP for Electro-Plated.
So apt with Queen Elizabeth's diamond jubilee coming up next year in 2012. A wonderful and most unusual piece with a footprint measuring 5 3/4" square and standing 6 1/4" tall.
