Masons Antiques has dated this piece to the 1870s.
Vernis Martin is a finish perfected in France around 1700 by the Martin brothers using gilt lacquer over a chalk base and was extensively used to decorate the furniture of Louis XIV at the Court of Versailles.
The case is further enhanced with skillfully applied oil paintings to all four sides of the clock.
The dial is white enamel with black Roman numerals and fine cut hands and beveled glass.
The 8 day movement strikes on a bell on the half hour and the hour. It has just been fully serviced by our BHI registered staff.
