Description

A small, good quality late Georgian longcase clock. Fine marquetry inlays to the case. A swan-neck hood pediment with brass patterae. Brass capped hood columns. An oak case with mahogany crossbanding and inlays. A well painted dial with gilt floral corner decorations. A lunar moon phase with a sailing frigate. A date aperture. A 30 hour mechanism striking the hours on a bell. The original 'dummy' winding arbours to the dial.

Thomas Bates of Market Harborough is recorded in Loomes' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working 1828-1835.
