Antique English Figural Oak & Brass Dinner Gong by William Tonks C.1880

Description

A most unusual Victorian wall-hanging dinner gong, the wooden base made from a solid piece of English Oak. The Oak is mounted with a cast brass Stag's head which is where the brass gong hangs from, the cord is a replacement but works well.

Below the head is a bracket which holds the Oak handled mallet which sits behind the gong.

There is the original hanging bracket attached to the back of the Oak base which bears the makers signature (Stylized sun and W.T.& S) for the well renowned metalware manufacturer, William Tonks & Sons of Birmingham.

A most unusual and absolutely charming piece in excellent condition, the brass having been polished professionally to gleam.

The oak base measures 8 3/8" x 3 3/8" and the brass gong having a diameter measuring 5 1/2".
