Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Named after Prince Albert during the Victorian era, the Albert chain was designed to secure a pocket watch to a gentlemans waistcoat. The T-bar slotted through a buttonhole, while the swivel clip attached securely to the watch case.

Albert watch chains were commonly crafted from solid 9ct, 15ct, or 18ct gold, as well as sterling silver. Links were often hand-formed into curb, rope, or belcher styles, with each link individually stamped for authenticity.

Authentic British Albert chains typically feature hallmarks on the T-bar, the dog clip swivels, and often on every individual link. These stamps indicate the gold purity, the assay office location, and the date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

While originally created for waistcoat pocket watches, modern wearers frequently repurpose Albert chains as choker-style necklaces, bracelet wraps, or layered chain necklaces featuring charms attached to the T-bar or swivel clips.

Clean gold chains using warm water with a mild dishwashing soap and a soft-bristled brush to remove dust from between the links. Avoid harsh chemical polishes that can wear down historical hallmarks and natural patina.
