Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originally designed in the nineteenth century, dog clips were functional swivel clasps attached to Albert pocket watch chains. They allowed the watch or hanging fob to be safely secured while rotating freely to prevent the chain from twisting.

Victorian and Edwardian dog clips were predominantly crafted from solid gold in 9ct, 15ct, or 18ct purities, as well as silver and pinchbeck. 15ct gold was a standard British carat purity used specifically between 1854 and 1932.

Authentic pieces often feature applied stamps such as .625 or 15 to denote 15ct gold content, along with makers marks on the swivel stem. They also display characteristic hand-assembled screw or internal steel spring mechanisms specific to nineteenth-century metalwork.

Small antique jewellery items and findings can be displayed inside velvet-lined shadow frames, mounted on brass display stands, or arranged within vintage presentation boxes atop a dressing table or vanity.

Clean solid gold clasps using a soft microfibre cloth and warm water with mild soap, taking care not to submerge internal spring mechanisms. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or ultrasonic baths that may damage mechanical threads or historic patination.
