Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tea caddies emerged in Europe during the seventeenth century to securely hold loose tea leaves, which were a costly luxury commodity. By the Victorian era, electroplating allowed manufacturers to create elaborate silver-plated caddies that served as functional storage and decorative centrepieces for afternoon tea rituals.

Victorian silver-plated tea caddies were typically constructed from a base metal, such as nickel silver or copper, coated with a layer of pure silver using electroplating process (EPNS). The exterior surfaces were frequently decorated using hand chasing, engraving, and stamping techniques to create detailed scrollwork and foliage motifs.

Authentic nineteenth-century electroplated items feature makers marks, stamped symbols, or initials usually found on the underside or rim. Look for traditional manufacturer stamps such as EPNS or EPBM, crisp hand-engraved detailing, and signs of natural age-related tarnishing or minor plating wear along high-contact points.

An antique silver caddy can be displayed on a sideboard, coffee table, or bookshelf to add texture and metallic contrast. It functions effectively as a container for desk stationery, jewelry, or small personal items within both traditional and contemporary room settings.

Clean silver plate gently using a soft, lint-free cloth and a specialised silver polish formulated for electroplated items. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners, harsh scrubbers, or prolonged submersion in water, as these methods can wear down the thin outer layer of silver plating.
