Imari ware refers to Japanese porcelain produced in the Arita region and historically exported via the port of Imari, defined by underglaze cobalt blue complemented by overglaze iron-red enamel and gilded detailing.

Imari chargers are constructed from kaolin-rich porcelain clay, fired at high temperatures with an initial underglaze blue design, followed by multi-stage kiln firings to fix overglaze enamels and metallic accents.
