Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, George III fan back chairs feature straight, upright back frames with vertical slats or splats arranged in a subtle fan or reeded layout. This style reflects Neo-Classical proportions common in Georgian cabinetmaking across Britain and Scotland.

Scottish provincial cabinetmakers frequently utilised regional hardwoods such as birch, oak, and laburnum alongside imported mahogany. Construction techniques typically involved mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved splats, and sturdy lower stretchers for structural stability.

Authentic pieces demonstrate hand-planed timbers, irregular saw marks on underside surfaces, and natural wood shrinkage around joints over time. Original joinery, period-appropriate timber patina, and regional design features such as straight square legs with stretchers indicate authenticity.

A single Georgian side chair functions as an accent piece in a hallway, bedroom corner, or alongside a contemporary writing desk. Combining historic timber seating with neutral modern upholstery or clean-lined decor creates a balanced, layered interior scheme.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying, warping, and finish fading.
