Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Oriental lacquerware is a traditional decorative art involving the application of sap from the Toxicodendron vernicifluum tree onto wood or leather bases. Applied in multiple thin layers, each coat hardens in a humid environment to create a durable, glossy, and moisture-resistant surface.

Traditional red lacquered boxes feature a base of lightweight wood or formed leather, coated with natural lacquer pigmented using minerals such as cinnabar or iron oxide. Metal accents, including hand-hammered brass or iron clasps and hinges, are frequently fitted for closure and reinforcement.

Authentic pieces often exhibit fine natural craquelure, subtle surface wear around handles or joints, and minor variations inherent in hand-applied lacquer coats. Modern synthetic reproductions typically display unnaturally uniform surfaces and lack the depth of colour found in natural resin finishes.

Graduated lacquered containers function as striking accent pieces when arranged together on a sideboard, console, or open shelving. Their deep red tone complements dark timber furniture as well as neutral contemporary decor schemes.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water, commercial furniture polishes, or chemical solvents. Keep lacquerware away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent the natural resin from drying or cracking.
