Antique French Moreau Family Bronze Sculpture of a Young Maiden 15.5 Inches Tall

Brief Description:

This is a beautiful antique French Bronze Sculpture depicting an elegant young maiden, produced by the celebrated Moreau family of French sculptors.

Dating to the late 19th/early 20th century, this wonderfully characterful bronze stands an impressive 15.5 inches in height and is signed to the integral base, as demonstrated within our photographs.

The Moreau family produced some of the most recognisable and sought-after French decorative sculpture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with several members of the family becoming accomplished sculptors in their own right.

This particularly charming example portrays a young lady standing barefoot and dressed in a wonderfully detailed flowing costume. Her head is gently tilted to one side, while the positioning of her arms and the natural movement of her clothing give the sculpture a delightful sense of animation and character.

The quality of the modelling is particularly evident throughout the lady's expressive facial features, swept-back hair, hands, bare feet and beautifully rendered folds of her dress.

The figure stands upon its original integral circular bronze base, which has been modelled with a naturalistic textured ground beneath her feet.

The bronze has acquired a wonderful rich, dark antique patina, together with areas of natural surface wear and subtle verdigris consistent with its considerable age.

The sculpture is signed to the front edge of the base, and we have included a close-up photograph of the signature for reference.

A fabulous example of French antique decorative bronze sculpture that displays beautifully and would look equally at home within a traditional period interior or a more contemporary setting.

At 15.5 inches tall, it is also a particularly useful display size for a desk, console table, sideboard, pedestal or collector's cabinet.
