Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ceramic scale weights were precision counterweights manufactured primarily during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Used extensively by grocers, butchers, and dairy merchants, these weights were favoured on food counters because ceramic was non-porous, easy to clean, and resistant to corrosion caused by salt, moisture, and acid.

Commercial shop weights were traditionally crafted from cast iron, brass, bronze, and glazed ceramics such as ironstone or porcelain. Ceramic weights were specifically designed for food retail, offering a hygienic surface that complied with historical trade standards while maintaining precise Imperial weight measurements.

Authentic W & T Avery ceramic weights feature clear transfer-printed markings denoting the weight capacity, manufacturer name, and location, often specifying Birmingham. Original pieces display characteristic underglaze cobalt blue or black lettering, crisp maker crests, and appropriate signs of light age wear along the unglazed base.

Antique ceramic weights make distinctive decorative accents in modern country kitchens, dining spaces, or open shelving units. Styled individually or arranged in graduated sets, their crisp typography and classic blue-and-white aesthetic add visual historical interest to modern and traditional interiors alike.

Clean ceramic scale weights using warm water and a mild dishwashing liquid with a soft, non-abrasive sponge. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, scouring pads, or submersion in hot water, as these can damage delicate glaze crazing or fade intact transfer-printed maker marks.
