Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ormolu-mounted porcelain vases are decorative vessels, primarily originating in 18th and 19th-century France, that combine deep cobalt blue glazed porcelain with cast gilt-bronze mounts. Frequently inspired by Sevres manufacture, these vessels were produced as garnitures to display on mantelpieces, consoles, and sideboards.

These decorative pieces were crafted by firing hard-paste or soft-paste porcelain with a cobalt oxide glaze, which was then paired with separately cast bronze mounts. The bronze fittings, including handles, bases, and decorative garlands, were gilded via mercury gilding or electroplating before being fitted to the ceramic body.

Authentic period pieces display crisp hand-chasing on the bronze mounts, natural surface oxidisation or subtle gilding wear, and substantial weight. The porcelain body typically exhibits minor era-appropriate firing inconsistencies and may feature maker marks inside the rim, on the underside, or behind the metalwork.

Position the pair symmetrically on a marble mantelpiece, a dark wood sideboard, or a tailored console table to create a focal point. Their high-contrast cobalt and gold palette integrates well against neutral painted walls, traditional panelling, or rich jewel-toned backdrops.

Dust the surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a fine camel-hair brush, avoiding liquid cleaners or metal polishes that can degrade the gilding. Keep the vessels in a climate-controlled room to avoid moisture trapping between the bronze mounts and the ceramic.
