Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Champleve enamel is an enamelling technique where troughs are carved or etched into a metal base and filled with vitreous enamel paste before firing. Popularised in Western Europe throughout the nineteenth century, French workshops frequently combined this intricate metalwork technique with polished semi-precious gemstones to produce decorative personal accessories.

These small boxes were typically constructed using a cast or stamped base of gilt brass, bronze, or copper. The metal served as the vessel for coloured glass enamel, while natural stones such as polished banded agate, jasper, or onyx were inset as decorative panels on lids and bases.

Authentic pieces display distinct hand-finishing marks on the metal borders, hand-cut stone panels with natural inclusions, and slight variations in the enamel surface. The gilding on brass components usually exhibits gentle patina and minor oxidisation in recessed areas consistent with age.

Small antique boxes are effectively displayed atop a stack of art books, arranged on a brass tray on a sideboard, or placed within a curated shelf display. Their compact scale and detailed metalwork make them suitable accent pieces for dressing tables or executive desk surfaces.

Dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid soaking in water or applying abrasive metal polishes, as chemical cleaners can damage the vitreous enamel surface and degrade the historic gilding.
