Webberley Antiques has dated this Charles II Oak Box Stool to the 17th Century.

The three board oak top with a slight smile from age but sturdy and opens and closes smoothly.
The stool has had several sets of hinges in its life – original these would have been iron split rings but later blacksmith forged iron hinges added.

Having a good colour and original timbers throughout, there has never had a hasp, clasp or lock. A partial crack to one stretcher (old and not going anywhere) and marks, knocks and losses consistent with age and caring use.

A very charming and rarely found 17th century closed stool with original carving and pegs and in lovely condition for age. Super proportions and entirely usable and priced to reflect the alterations to hinges and small faults as described.
Dimensions are:
17.75 inches high, 18 inches wide, 18 inches deep. The usable (internal) height of the box stool storage is 5.5 inches.
