Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian cabinet design is defined by classical proportions, symmetry, and the widespread introduction of imported mahogany. Furniture of this era typically features fielded panels, understated mouldings, and straight or tapered legs rather than elaborate ornamentation.

Primary exteriors were constructed from dense West Indian or Cuban mahogany, valued for its rich grain and stability. Secondary interior timber usually comprised native softwoods like pine, deal, or oak for drawer linings and back panels.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed timber surfaces, and slight irregular shrinkage across wide timber panels over time. Original brass ironmongery and natural oxidisation on untouched interior wood also indicate genuine age.

A dark mahogany cabinet creates a grounding focal point when positioned against neutral or muted walls. Modern interiors often balance the historic weight of timber case furniture with minimalist lighting and modern contemporary artwork.

Regular dusting with a dry microfibre cloth is recommended, supplemented by occasional light applications of beeswax polish to nourish the wood. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and damp walls to prevent timber movement or cracking.
