Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 1920s and 1930s, British furniture makers produced compact oak pieces drawing inspiration from 17th-century Jacobean gateleg designs. These lower-height occasional tables were designed to accommodate smaller suburban living rooms and the rising popularity of informal tea and coffee serving.

Tables from this period were typically constructed using solid English or European oak, often featuring machine-cut mortise and tenon joints paired with hand-finished turned legs. Hinged drop leaves were supported either by pivoting wooden gate legs or internal metal rule joints.

Authentic interwar pieces feature period-correct hardware such as steel drop-leaf hinges, consistent age-related wear around the feet and stretchers, and a darkened patination in recessed turned areas. Construction often shows a mix of early industrial woodworking and hand assembly.

This type of table functions effectively as an end table beside a sofa or as a compact central coffee table in smaller spaces. The drop leaves can be lowered to minimise the footprint or raised to provide additional surface area when entertaining.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber moisture and patina. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and liquid spills to prevent staining or warping of the leaves.
