Freshfords Fine Antiques has dated this George III Satinwood Cabinet to the Georgian era.
Beneath is a recessed cross grain panel flanked by two smaller solid satinwood beadings. The central oval mirror is recessed within the door and framed by mitred corners with tulipwood cross banding, all enclosed within an inlaid and cross banded surround.

The mirrored door is flanked by inverted inlaid fluted panels veneered in long grain sabicu, surmounted by tulipwood long grain fluted capitals that terminate above a breakfront satinwood moulded slip. The cabinet is constructed in two sections, with the mirrored door opening to reveal three original adjustable mahogany shelves.

The secretaire drawer opens to reveal a well arranged interior fitted with four central pigeon holes and two banks of four graduated satinwood drawers with mahogany linings, retaining their turned handles. The green leather writing surface remains very usable with little wear and good colour. Although it is not original, it was not replaced by Freshfords and could be changed if desired. The top of the secretaire drawer is veneered in highly figured satinwood, cross banded in tulipwood with boxwood and ebony stringing, and finished with sabicu end grain veneers to the front and side edges.

The veneers selected for the upper and lower side sections display particularly lively figure, with the lower section divided by a crossbanded panel. The drawer front is book matched to the veneer above and finished with mirrored tulipwood crossbanding and fine stringing. The drawer fall retains finely etched porcelain backplates and crisply cast gilt brass ring pull handles. The porcelain plaques depict different rural scenes, each conveying a peaceful landscape.

The lower cupboard is enclosed by a pair of highly figured oval panelled doors with tulipwood crossbanding, opening to reveal three original mahogany trays. The cabinet is finished with a solid satinwood thumbnail moulding above a broad ebony beading, standing on a shaped satinwood apron and terminating on fine splayed feet.
