Freshfords Fine Antiques has dated this Regency Faux Bamboo Fire Screen to the Regency era.
The screen remains free from breaks and is fitted with a replaced silk damask panel, while the wooden panel to the reverse remains unlined.

The design reflects the influence of the chinoiserie taste popular during the Regency period, particularly the flamboyant decorative preferences of King George IV and his famous Royal Pavilion at Brighton. The lightly gilt finish was intended to replicate the appearance of dried bamboo, a style often used for furniture and decorative objects inspired by Eastern design.

Traditionally, fire screens of this type would have featured hand painted scenes, fine imported Chinese wallpaper, lacquer panels or embroidered textiles within the central panel. This example retains a delicate silk embroidery, adding to the decorative appeal of the piece.
