Freshfords Fine Antiques has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The well figured veneers display a lively arrangement above the full length centre drawer.

The oak lined drawer is fitted with the original brass plate handles and retains its figured walnut veneer with a wide end grain crossbanding. The two smaller drawers flank a central gothic arch above a shaped apron decorated with vertical cross grain bandings and straight grain walnut veneers to the sides.

The lowboy is raised on solid walnut cabriole legs terminating in chamfered pad feet. The pleasing proportions and carefully chosen veneers give the piece a strong presence, with the original locks and handles retained and no splits or breaks.
The use of walnut, the quality of the veneer selection and the overall scale are characteristic of a well executed provincial George II lowboy, retaining a fine colour and surface.
