Treasure Trove Worcester Ltd has dated this French Provincial Oak Coffer to the 18th Century.
The front formed with four deeply moulded fielded panels, each centred with a stylised carved flowerhead within shaped reserves and further enriched with brass stud decoration.

The substantial three-plank top opens to a generous storage interior, the underside retaining old pegged construction and historic timber repairs consistent with age and use. Raised on integral stile feet with shaped cut-away brackets, the chest displays the robust craftsmanship associated with provincial French country furniture of the period.

The oak has developed a deep, warm patina over centuries of use, with age-related wear, surface marks, shrinkage to the top boards and old repairs all contributing to its authentic appearance and character.
