We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Qing dynasty (16441912), Chinese craftsmen produced tabletop dressing mirrors and miniature cheval mirrors primarily for domestic use. These pieces reflected traditional woodworking techniques and were frequently decorated with intricate mother-of-pearl inlays depicting floral motifs and symbolic patterns.

Frames were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods such as zitan, hongmu, or rosewood. Decorators employed mother-of-pearl (nacre) cut into precise shapes to create inlaid patterns, alongside polished glass or silvered metal reflective surfaces.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut nacre inlays that show subtle colour variations and natural iridescent grain under light. Hand-carved joinery, such as mortise and tenon joints without modern screws, and natural surface patination on the dark hardwood further indicate historic construction.

Place the mirror atop a neutral sideboard, vanity, or console table to create a focal point. The dark wood and iridescent inlay contrast effectively against contemporary minimalist backdrops or textured plaster walls.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent buildup. Avoid using harsh chemical solvents or excessive water, which can degrade the shell adhesive or dry out the hardwood, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent timber movement.
