A Wonderful Pair of 1860'S Staffordshire Dogs

Description

Decorated with baskets of flowers in their mouths, crisp painting and excellent moulding, they are absolutely charming! They are also rare to come by in black and white colouration.

There is a manufacturing chip underneath one of the dogs, but it cannot be seen when it is standing up and takes nothing away from the item's appearance

Staffordshire dogs are lead-glazed earthenware figurines produced in Staffordshire, England, predominantly during the 19th century. Positioned in matching pairs, these ceramic spaniels were originally designed as decorative mantelpiece ornaments for Victorian homes.

These figurines were created using press-moulding techniques with white earthenware clay. Once fired, artisans hand-painted the black markings, facial features, floral baskets, and gilt or coloured collars using overglaze enamels before a final low-temperature firing.
