Edwardian Mahogany Dressing Table Mirror Circa 1900–1915

1900 - 1920
Description

A very elegant Edwardian mahogany dressing table mirror of lovely colour and attractive figuring. The arched mirror plate is set within a finely figured mahogany frame and held between slender turned uprights, each surmounted by a contrasting dark turned finial. The mirror pivots between the uprights and can be adjusted to the desired angle, secured by decorative brass ring handles to either side. The frame is raised on elegant shaped sledge feet united by a turned stretcher. A particularly pretty and well-proportioned example, with delicate detailing and a warm, rich patina. Its relatively compact proportions make it ideal for a dressing table or chest of drawers.

Condition : In good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with its age and use. The mahogany retains a warm patina with minor marks, light scratches and small knocks. There is some light age-related wear to the mirror plate. The adjustable mirror and brass fittings are present and functioning.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian dressing table mirrors, crafted between 1901 and 1915, typically feature lighter proportions, arched top frames, and mahogany veneers inspired by 18th-century classical designs.

These pieces were predominantly constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine or oak, fitted with silvered plate glass, turned uprights, and brass swivel fixings.

Authentic Edwardian mirrors exhibit hand-turned finials, original brass adjustment hardware, period plate glass showing mild oxidisation, and hand-joined timber frame construction.

Position the mirror on a contemporary chest of drawers, a hallway console table, or a dressing table to introduce warm wood tones and depth to modern minimalist spaces.

Dust the wooden frame regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax twice yearly, avoiding harsh chemical glass cleaners that could seep into the timber joints.
