Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Meissen began producing detailed porcelain animal models in the early 18th century under the direction of sculptors like Johann Joachim Kandler. These realistic bird sculptures became popular decorative items across European royal and noble courts during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Meissen figurines were made from hard-paste porcelain, composed of kaolin and alabaster or feldspar. Pieces were hand-moulded, assembled from separate elements, fired at high temperatures, and individually hand-painted with overglaze enamels.

Authentic pieces feature the famous Meissen crossed swords mark painted underglaze in cobalt blue, typically on the underside of the base. Model numbers, incised numerals, painter marks, and precise hand-painted detail further assist in authentication.

A large porcelain bird sculpture works effectively as a focal point on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or inside a curated glazed cabinet. Pairing it with botanical elements or placing it within a maximalist display creates a sophisticated contrast against contemporary backdrop tones.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth or a clean camel-hair brush to prevent snagging fine delicate porcelain edges. Avoid harsh liquid cleansers or immersion in water, as moisture can enter unglazed firing holes or damage subtle restored areas.
