Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian taxidermy domes emerged during the 19th century as popular decorative items driven by a widespread fascination with natural history and scientific classification. Placing specimens beneath hand-blown glass cloches protected delicate feathers and taxidermy mounts from dust, moisture, and domestic wear.

Traditional mounts consist of preserved animal skin over sculpted core structures, often featuring glass eyes for realistic detail. The bases are typically turned timber, frequently finished with an ebonised stain, and enclosed by a blown glass dome seated on a velvet or cord channel.

Original pieces feature period indicators such as mouth-blown glass containing subtle air bubbles or optical distortions, along with natural wood shrinkage on the ebonised base. Authentic mounts exhibit historical wire construction, hand-painted details, and period-appropriate taxidermy techniques rather than modern synthetic materials.

These decorative specimens function as focal points when styled on a fireplace mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard alongside curated antiques. They fit well within dark academia, cabinet of curiosities, or maximalist interior concepts.

Keep the display away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp conditions to prevent feather fading or degradation. Clean the exterior glass with a dry microfibre cloth, ensuring the dome is not lifted unnecessarily to protect the sealed internal environment.
